City Cooperstown is the county seat of Otsego County, New York and is best known as the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. The population was estimated 2,032 at the 2000 census. The Farmers' Museum, The Fenimore House Museum, and the New York State Historical Association are also based there. Cooperstown was founded by and named after Judge William Cooper, the father of author James Fenimore Cooper.
