Campbell is a city in Mahoning County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,460 at the 2000 census. The city's name is generally pronounced 'camel' by local residents, however it is properly pronounced Camp- Bell. The city has also been nicknamed Soup City. Campbell is served by a branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Campbell was formerly known as East Youngstown, Ohio, and this designation still appears on real estate deeds for the city. In 1922, the city was renamed for local industrialist James A. Campbell, then chairman of the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. Campbell is also know as the City of Churches for having a large number or churches of varying religions.
